SOAP is one outstanding program

SOAP, or Stand Out And Program, is a student-coordinated program. Liz Ameral and Joe O'Boyle run SOAP out of the Student Activities Office.

The program is designed to encourage student organizations to run alcohol-free, campus-wide programs on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Though SOAP has been around for two years, this year it has expanded to ensure programming every Friday night, from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM in the Lower Wedge. Any student organization on campus can apply for $250 towards programming on Tuesdays and Saturdays and $500 for Friday night.

SOAP's goal is to help out the WPI community by offering campus-wide, alcohol-free entertainment, thus making the campus a safer, more enjoyable place.

SOAP plans to use surveys to learn what students are liking about SOAP and what they would like to see in the future.

SOAP's budget is supplied by WPI's operating account and is specifically designed so that SOAP may ensure programming every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday night every week.

With an average attendance of 80-150 students every Friday night, SOAP is clearly already quite successful, but they are always looking for more programming.

If you are a part of a student organization, and would like to apply for financial assistance from SOAP, you can contact them via the SAO office in Daniels Hall.
