On Sunday, October 1st, the women's varsity crew team surged across the finish line ahead of 27 other boats, for the overall third fastest and number one women's collegiate finish in their field.
With a time of 20:01, the women placed 14 seconds ahead of the next fastest college team and remaining competition, which included a number of NCAA Division I crews. Among the schools represented were Boston College, Coast Guard, Wesleyen, Mt. Holyoke, and not least, Holy Cross.
It was, indeed, a day of multiple triumphs; until Sunday, the most recent WPI women's rowing victory over Holy Cross, the archrival with whom they share a common boathouse on Lake Quinsigamond, occurred in 1984.
The season continues this Saturday, October 8th, at the Head of the Housatonic River in Connecticut. Other venues of interest include the first annual "Quinsigamond Challenge" on Saturday, November 4th. Bundle up, cheer loudly, and come be a part of this historical event from Regatta Point (across from East Side Mario's restaurant), where WPI will take on Holy Cross head-to-head for the home crowd.
Also, don't forget to come out and support (or torture) your favorite rowers and coxswains next week (Oct. 9th and 10th) at WPI Crew's 24 hour Erg-a-thon on the Quad.
