Newman Club

Welcome back everyone; we hope you had a great term break. The Newman club is excited about the many planned activities for the term. The next two weekends our Sunday Mass will be in the Lower Wedge at the usual time, 11:30AM. Our agenda committee will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, November 8, at 12:00 noon. In the evening at 9:00PM, our executive board will meet, preceded by Holy Hour at 8:00PM. At these meetings we will discuss our December events. Our Faith and Discussion group continues to meet on Monday night at 8:30PM. On Friday, November 10 at noon our graduate seminar will meet. As always, these meetings take place at the Religious Center.

On Friday night, November 10, we will have our Veterans' Day video and pasta celebration beginning at 5:30PM in the religious center. You may want to mark your calendar for Friday, December 1 as we are returning to Wright's Chicken Farm for another night of celebration. Check next week's Tech News for more scheduled events.

Phi Sigma Kappa

Phi Sigma Kappa recently helped set up and organize the Walk for Diabetes, which was held at Worcester State College on Sunday, October 15. The Walk for Diabetes was a charity walk that raised money to fund research to find a cure for diabetes, a disease that affects over 15 million people in the United States. Phi Sigma Kappa has helped with this event for the past several years. This year, over 1,100 people walked, raising over $225,000.

Phi Sigma Kappa has also been busy with Heifer Project International, running events at their Harvest Festival, which was held recently in Rutland, MA. The Heifer Project aids farmers in developing nations. Currently, the brothers of Phi Sigma Kappa are involved in an ongoing charity project to benefit Ali and Dad's Army - an organization that supports pediatric cancer research. The brothers sell raffle tickets at Boston Bruins games to benefit this charity. Tau Beta Pi

High heating costs and the prospect of a cold winter have prompted the WPI chapter of Tau Beta Pi-the National Engineering Honor Society-to sponsor a Warmth Drive at WPI. From Nov. 6 to Nov. 17, there will be a table at the Wedge for the collection of any old coats, blankets, or even items such as space heaters. At the end of the drive, the items collected will be donated to local area shelters and charities.

Later in the term, Tau Beta Pi will also be sponsoring a canned food drive for the Worcester food bank, and a toy drive to provide Christmas presents for needy children. Dates on these activities will be announced later. Patti DeChristopher, the Service Committee Chair for Tau Beta Pi, is coordinating all of these activities. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact taubeta@wpi.edu.
