It's my turn to rant and rave: Sports teams need more wins

Each weekend I sit down and try to come up with something interesting for everyone to read on the back page in class Tuesday morning. I know many of you are disgruntled, because my sports gibberish displaced the police log, and a small amount of physical exertion is required to open up the paper to page two to find it now. I apologize in advance for those of you I offended; please excuse me for mocking the lack of enthusiasm at this school for anything that requires leaving your computer. Of course, if you're reading the paper online right now... none of this applies to you, so forget all that.
Anyways, back to my point. Not only do I want interesting stories, but also positive ones as well. Unfortunately, things have not been going so smoothly on the north side of the Quad lately, and I do not have much positive news to report.
The star-crossed wrestling team, already without the services of junior star Sean Nelligan (Brockton, MA) due to an accident last fall, suffered another setback last week. At a tournament at Southern Maine, starting freshman Anthony Paoletta (Danville, NH) was injured, although the grapplers did manage to finish strong to earn a tie in that meet. Coach Phil Grebinar, in his 29th year, is also recovering himself, after injuring his leg refereeing. A solid 36-6 victory over MIT last weekend gave the team their first dual-meet win.
The men's basketball team, chock full of freshmen, lost its only senior in a New Years' Eve snowmobile accident. Hampden, MA native Jeff Moore injured his leg and may miss several weeks due to the mishap. The young team is still searching for it's first victory of the season.
The women's basketball team finishes up a 6-game road trip tonight, and they could use another win as well. A tough weekend tournament at Williams College, as well as a visit to Trinity in Connecticut, has sent Charise Galasso's squad spiraling into their first 3-game losing streak of the season.
But hey, at least the bowling alleys have been coming alive! It has not been publicized much, and the 1960's-era lanes are still in rotten condition, but the Student Activities Office has funded open bowling on weekends recently. Occasionally there is food, drinks, and a DJ playing music, so stop by the basement of Alumni Gym and have some fun! SAO may have more detailed information, as well as a schedule (last term, the lanes were open from 8pm until 1am fairly consistently on Friday and Saturday nights). Contact Athletic Director Ray Gilbert if you are wondering why the lanes are still having mechanical problems, maybe he will listen if enough of us complain!
That's enough trouble for this week, so good luck in classes, and I'll be back here on my page next Tuesday if they let me continue my ranting. I'll leave you with a useless fact to think about and maybe kick off some letters to the editor. WPI has a male-to-female ratio of approximately 5:1. So can someone please explain to me how such a small pool of girls has managed to win 7 games overall this season, while all the men's teams have only scraped together 5?
