Steve Horsman signs with Orioles

by Mike Newcomb
Sports Editor

Former WPI baseball player Steve Horsman '00 was signed by the Baltimore Orioles last Friday. Horsman, who started all 30 games for the Engineers last season, was invited to Albany last month for a workout with the team.

The left-handed power hitter is expected to tryout as a left or right fielder. He started the 2000 season at first base for WPI, moving to right field as the year went on. The move to the outfield allowed Horsman to show off his arm, one of his major assets. Last season, he hit .275 in 102 at-bats, with 28 hits, 21 RBI, and 4 home runs. He also stole three bases in three tries, and collected 103 putouts with a .957 fielding percentage.

Horsman will make the trip to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida this spring to join the team in Spring Training.
