Wrestling team rolls with another upset

by Mike Newcomb
Sports Editor

Just a few weeks ago, the WPI wrestling team had only tallied one dual meet win all season, along with several tough 1-point losses. Now, the grapplers have won four of their last five contests to bring their record up to 5-10-1.

Two weeks ago, WPI upset Coast Guard, the #1 ranked team in New England at the time. Last week, the Engineers pulled off another stellar upset, manhandling Roger Williams, 24-17. The visitors came to Worcester ranked #2 in the region. WPI also made quick work of Bryant College last Wednesday evening, taking a 26-6 victory.

Winners against Roger Williams were: Nick Macsata (125), Paul Blanchard (157), Dave Capone (174), Steve Hitchcock (184), and Willie Welsh (Hwt). Macsata, Hitchcock, and Welsh each won by taking down their opponent.

Tejal Patel (141) and Greg Veitch (165) earned victories in the Bryant matchup, while Matt Lucas (184), Chris Newton (197), and Welsh won by forfeit.
