The little things...
"In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king"
I have often in the past talked about communication and how there is a lack of it on this campus in general and, more specifically, between the people here. Well, I have decided to talk about communication this week and specifically about how the communication that does exist has gone awry.
Now, in regard to a matter of major importance, the communications capacity and capability of our school and its professors must be put under the microscope. Personally, I know people who have gone into class perfectly normal (now you have to understand that the average WPI student is being used as the benchmark for this, not a real person) and have come out blithering idiots with only the urge to work. This is quite suspect. I firmly believe that the school is implanting suggestions into the minds of the students through subliminal messaging in lectures and books. Have you ever gone into PH 1110 a self respecting M.E. with a happy future in thermo-fluids, and come out a die-hard physics major with a strange craving for jug wine? I know I have. This can only be attributed to the hidden departmental messages. One of my C.S. friends went into ME 1800 a normal computer geek and woke up in the design room at General Electric with a four-year contract! It is our job as students to rise up and prevent this mind control. I call upon all students to sleep in class. That is the only way to keep your own thought! You must…you will!! All Hail Tech News!!!
On a personal note, there are people out there who would rather not communicate in a civilized manner. No, no, it's true! Hard as it may be to believe, it is true. In this very issue, maybe on this very page, there are people who take offence to my form of communication. To give a better point of reference, let's call this person Michael W. Actually, that may be too much of a giveaway. Let's call him M. Westfort. Now, people like M. Westfort would take offence to something that is quite obviously a column that takes an overly humorous view of things that may (or more often, may not) be relevant issues to a small minority of students (usually that group being only me). Now, it may be one thing to not like what someone has to say, but to attack the fabric of the medium is far from acceptable. Now, to Michael W's credit, there was a particular article that displayed an incredibly stereotypical view of women. I praise him for his powers of observation. It is quite an accomplishment to locate 50% of the stereotypes in the article about stereotypes. It is very nice that he noticed the stereotypical view taken of women, but my question is, did he find the view of men to be normal? If so, that leads me to believe that he may be living the far worse stereotype I portrayed of men, and you have my pity. Actually, you have my pity either way! Whether you want it or not!! So there!!! …And that's all I've got to say about that.
