A spring scene at WPI

Name withheld

It's springtime. Birds are singing, the sun is shining, and the days are getting longer. It's also the time of spring training. As you look out on the Athletic Fields, you see our athletes stretching, bending, and really putting a good effort into their labors. If you look closer, though, you will see they're bending and stretching with rakes and shovels, not bats and balls.

If this was a group of wannabe athletes trying to reclaim a vacant lot from the clutches of winter, then would be natural to see player and coach striving towards this most noble cause. That, however, is not the case. This scene is being played out on our own athletic fields, here at WPI. Why is it that the players and their coaches have been the driving force behind the preparation of the fields? Not just the fields, but the track also. It is noted that this had been unusual weather. It is also noted that this is not the first time this has been played out here at WPI. Our student athletes deserve better treatment then this. After all, they are paying for the pleasure of representing our fine institution in more ways then dollars and cents.
