Sigma Mu Epsilon acceptance letters due this Friday

Manufacturing Honor Society to admit new members

by James Lagrant - President, Sigma Mu Epsilon
Shortly before winter break began, some outstanding members of the WPI community received letters notifying them of their eligibility of becoming members of Sigma Mu Epsilon (the Manufacturing Honor Society). Sigma Mu Epsilon was founded at WPI in April, 1991 and has over 50 members. The major goals of the organization are to promote interest and foster academic excellence in manufacturing engineering and to set high standards for academic performance and ethical behavior at WPI. Membership in this organization is extended to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty.

To become eligible for induction as an undergraduate, the candidates must first fall within the top 25% of the junior class or the top 33% of the senior class based on GPA. Other areas of consideration are the candidate's declared major, and courses that have been taken in the manufacturing curriculum. In order to further judge the desire of a candidate for admittance into the society, they were asked to write an acceptance letter describing what their interests in manufacturing are, why manufacturing is important to other majors and what they could contribute to the honor society The acceptance letter must be sent to WPI Box 1457 by this Friday, January 20. Following acceptance into the society, the candidates will participate in an induction ceremony later this term.
