The Basil Report: week 2

by Dave Koelle - Newspeak Staff
Welcome back to another fun episode of the Basil Report! Well, it's been seven to ten days now, and no basil has sprung. I think I should have gotten better soil. The soil I had originally obtained turned very clay-like. Maybe I should actually go out and get some real soil, if we want some basil. Anyway, I didn't plant all of the seeds last week, so I still have some left to plant in the new soil that we get. Maybe we'll even invest in some fertilizer. Actually, if any loyal readers have any gardening tips (how many green thumbs are there at WPI, anyway?), I would appreciate them much...mail them to newspeak@wpi.edu.

Well, once we get some basil, maybe we'll let you try some. It'll probably be mature around Quadfest (well, it had better be!), so perhaps we'll have a booth and exhibit our basil. Who knows, this may be the start of the Newspeak Garden! We'll have tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, and basil! Okay, I think I'm realllly getting ahead of myself here...even the concept of a Basil Booth at Quadfest is extreme. Note: I'm making no promises for anything in this report! I don't even know if the basil will actually grow, although I hope it does. Did anyone else get basil seeds from the Smithsonian? Care to contribute? Newspeak is WPI Box 2700 (hint hint).

That's all for this week! Look for next week's Basil Report! I hope I'll have more to report!
