ASME

Well I actually have something to write about this week. Last Wednesday we had the first ASME of the new year. I sent out a summary of it in e-mail but reported the date as 1/18/94, needless to say it was a summary of the meeting this year, not last year. Anyway for those of you who missed it (and don't read e-mail yet) I will briefly describe what we are up to.

We are planning some more plant tours this term. Polaroid and Samuel Adams, I think everyone knows about (or knows what the companies are about) and in addition Bird and Sons (great for all interested in manufacturing) and Martin Marietta. If anyone is interested in attending any of these tours, email marko@wpi and mention which tours you are interested in. The tours will most likely be on some Wednesdays throughout the term.

A lot of organizations have T-shirts here (even the civils), so we are having an ASME T-shirt contest. Come up with a design, put it on a piece of paper in ink (colors added at the shirt place, not on the drawing), put ASME somewhere on it and mail it to ASME Box 841. The winner gets a free shirt and 25 bucks. We also spoke about having some socials this term with some other organizations. If any out there wants to have a social with the ASME, contact us. Finally, the torches will be passed at the end of the term, i.e. officer elections. We will be having a pizza party and the 4 spots are open for officers. As always ASME forms are located in front of HL 116 and to all members (and officers) who owe dues (a lot of you), please pay up....

Bacchus

Hey guys.... ok we had a meeting last week and got a lot of ideas bouncing around. If you want to participate then come to our next meeting on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The location of the meeting is in SL 121 .. GOT IT.. be there... we need your support.... Strive to live healthy!!!

Chinese Student Association

A big and warm hello to all as we plunge into C term...sorry we missed Club Corner last week, but we're back now (and will be around for the rest of the term). Anyway, once again, hope everyone had an enjoyable break and is ready to do some stuff with CSA this term.

Though most people would much rather stay in their nice warm beds this season, our Basketball and Table Tennis players are already out winning games...if the players can leave their rooms and head on down to the courts, so can you. Go and cheer at a Basketball game sometime...the players really work hard and are doing well this year...you can bring you blanket if you want, you know.

Ok...a few other things. There should be a general meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) probably in Salisbury Labs (as usual)...sorry the info *might* not be exact here; just check your mail for all the newest updates. Also, as you should know, Chinese New Year is coming up...if you all have something you really want to do, just mail dragon@wpi and give us suggestions (or we might have to plan an event where everyone stands around and gives me red envelopes while feeding me yummy goodies). One other thing...yearbook pictures *could* be coming up...so stay tuned on that as well.

Ok, guess that's about it for this week...not much has happened so there's not too much to say (unless y'all wanna hear me sing, that is). Oh, and the CSA Sports T-shirt is STILL 'under construction'...sorry for the delay due to some technical difficulties. It will be out as soon as possible (and it will be worth the wait). Well then, take care and keep warm! Later.

German Club

This is for all students (previous and current) of German, German Exchange Students, or anyone who is interested in experiencing a little bit of German Culture and can speak German.

A STAMMTISCH (type of German informal meeting where people traditionally drink beer and play cards) will be held at 12:00 until 1:00 in Gompei's. However, we will be restricting ourselves to the consumption of sodas. This is a good opportunity to build, practice, or brush up on your German Verbal Skills, and have a lot of fun.

ISC

Hi, all of you out there! Well, FYI, there was a meeting last Wednesday at Morgan C and the next one will be next week (not this week) in the same place at 4:30 pm.

I hope everybody is getting ready for ISC's next great event - the Culture Night! It is going to be held some time in April (11th I think) and is open to all. We're planning to make the ticket prices very, very low - actually, what the heck, we'll make it free! And for that price (of nothing) we'll throw in all the food and drinks. As a bonus, there's also going to be plenty of music and dancing - I hope most of you out there can afford that, huh? During this night, there's going to be a couple of presentations made that are going to be nothing short of spectacular and exciting - so don't you dare miss it....We're going to make sure that "awesome" would be an understatement for the night! Anyway, I'll be providing more details in later issues of Newspeak - so keep tuning in...

By the way, would all the member clubs of ISC please approach the meetings with some ideas as to your participation for the Culture night. We would like to get things started as soon as possible....thank you!

Well, that's all for now folks - till next time,

Bon Chance!

Mu Sigma Delta

Hi everybody! As you may have noticed, we changed the name of the club from the WPI PreMed/PreVet Society to this more simpler form. Our quarterly meeting was yesterday and for those of you who missed it, the minutes will be posted over medvetnews any day now. New term, new ideas, and we need your help! One of the first things happening this term is a fundraiser that will be held next Monday and Tuesday (Jan 30,31) from 11-4 in Daniels Mailroom. We will be raffling off a Wachusett Ski Area Gift Certificate at the bargain price of two chances for a dollar. Tell your friends, bring some pocket change, and win! For those of you not in the club who might have suggestions, or if you come up with any ideas for club related activities, don't be shy, let everyone know via medvetnews@wpi ! Hope you all have a happy and prosperous week!-guppy

National Society of Pershing Rifles

Welcome back to another glorious year at WPI. Sorry about missing last week folks, but I refuse to explain myself one more time so you will just have to accept it. Anyway, we have a great year planned if we can get over the numerous large hurdles that have been placed in our path. First of all, we have got to get recruiting going full blast now!!! This is a great organization and we have to tell people about it, get them interested. Pershing Rifles must have a large pledge class for this spring. Secondly, we will be holding elections early this year for various reasons. Anyone who wants to try for any of the following positions, do not hesitate to let people know. There is the Captain, XO, First Sergeant, S-1, S-3, S-4, and tentatively assistant S-2, Sergeant at arms, and S-5. We need good people to fill these positions, so think about it. Our next meeting will be tomorrow at 7:00pm in HA 035. Everyone should have those bids out by now so you should all bring in at least one person.

Newman Club

I'm BACK...sorry to have missed a few issues. This place gets busy! Newman has still been chugging away though. Christmas Mass went well along with the food collection for Youville. Thanks to the lady carolers and Maria for organizing everything. We still missed those Glee Club boys! The reception after went well too as it was a good study break for most of us.

Last night was the first meeting of the term. Look for news of the Retreat and other upcoming events. Don't forget our Superbowl Sunday Extravaganza on Sunday. Stop by around 3:30pm for some food and socializing. If you want to watch the game with the infamous House Managers you are welcome to stay.

For the ministers: there's a sign up sheet for the Nursing Home program. Make sure you talk to us about which weekend you'd like to go. Avoid those MPNs and have a good week! Think snow...

SocComm

Your friendly neighborhood social committee is on the run again. This week we have a sneak preview for the movie BEFORE SUNRISE. Go see it... it's free. The meetings for the different committees are as follows: Major events, Wednesday at 4:30 lower wedge, and probably also a Fine Arts meeting on Wednesday. If your are interested in seeing what we do with ALL the MONEY we have... come and join ... to find out more info email soccomm@wpi or call X5509.. Later

Society of Women Engineers

SWE will be holding its first meeting of C-Term TONIGHT--Tuesday, January 24th in OH 126 at 7pm. We will be talking about possible new programs as well as the upcoming conference in Rochester, NY in early March. We'd also like to get some volunteers who'd be willing to work for an hour or so at the SWE booth during the health fair on February 14th. Come to the meeting if you have any questions or new ideas, would like to volunteer for something, or would like to buy a SWE "Top Ten Reasons to be an Engineer" t-shirt (we still have to sell at least 10 of them for $10 each). Plus, we will be having refreshments as an added bonus for attending!
