Minutes for the meeting of January 17, 1995
Meeting held in Atwater Kent 219
I. Meeting called to order at 5:51 pm.
II. Attendance:
Executive Board: Fiona Abrams, Vice Pres; Rachel Butland, Sect.
Senate: Joe Batcha, Heather Cleary, Cathy Connelly, Ryan Daly, Nat Fairbanks, Shannon Finley, Beth Gentry, Lee Guthrie, Rebecca Hoffman, Lucie Lasovsky, Jason Macierowski, Amy Plack, Amy Sinyei, Dave Smith, Greg Snow, Kristen Stagg, Tim Tully, Chizzy Uchendu, Joe Waln.
Absent: Greg Findlen, Pres.;(excused), Deb Foley(excused), John Grossi(excused), Marni Hall, Ed Hallissey, Seth Kintigh, Jason Mickey(excused), Jeff Spaletta, Cara Valliere(excused), Shelby Walker(excused).

III. Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the meeting held December 13, 1994 were approved with no amendments.
IV. Vice-Presidents Report: Vice-President Abrams reported on the last Faculty Meeting. Also, at the Executive Staff Meeting they discussed the increase in applications for the CM Dept. and the decrease in applications for CE Dept. They also discussed the Institute's budget.
V. Secretary's Report: Secretary Butland asked several senators to see her after the meeting to sign up for office hours and committees. Also, to be excused from a meeting please send her email instead of leaving a message on the call-in line.
VI. Treasurer's Report: none
VII. Committee Reports:
-SGA Committees
P&P: Chair Snow reported that he did a lot of work over break but the committee had not met yet. A meeting will be scheduled for next week.
Elections: Chair Waln reported that the committee has set up a preliminary schedule for C-term elections and they are looking to see if there are any conflicts. They will need at least ten (10) senators on February 16th for paper balloting. Please see him after the meeting if you can help on that day.
CAI:Chair Fairbanks reported the committee did not meet last week. On CAI's agenda this term is the follow up on the Math Dept. and Maple, Chem III charge for the syllabus, curriculum review, advertising on WAAF, and the interface disciplines. The committee also needs a new faculty representative. He also asked the committee members for their schedules.
New WPI:Senator Plack reported that the meeting will be held on Tuesday at 4:00 pm. Place to be announced.
-Institute Committees
CSA: Sen. Connelly reported that the committee voted unanimously to recommend to the Registrar to use past demand, historical registration patterns, and better conflict resolutions to build the master schedule and then give the students the time schedules along with the teaching assignments, to use during pre-registration. Some topics to hopefully be discussed for the term are academic dishonesty and new student orientation. If anyone has any issues that they feel are relevant please do not hesitate to contact Cathy Connelly(swathy@wpi) or Kevin Shea(shea@wpi).
Library Advisory: Sen. Daly announced that the committee will meet on February 6th.

IX. New Business:
Motion 1c.95:Secretary Butland moved that the Senate vote to approve the executive decision to send flowers to the family of Cara Valliere. Senator Fairbanks seconded. Motion passed.
Senator Daly moved to hear new business, Fairbanks seconded. Motion passed.
Motion 2c.95:Senator Daly moved that the Senate vote to give $1.05 for the Winter Carnival. Senator Batcha seconded. Daly stated that the motion was intended to open discussion about the Winter Carnival to be held in February.
Senator Macierowski moved to suspend Robert's Rules. Daly seconded, motion passed.
Senator Finley moved to re-instate Robert's Rules. Connelly seconded, motion passed.
Senator Daly withdrew the motion.
X. Announcements:
-Secretary Butland announced that she is intending to write a letter to Philler concerning their last article. Please let people know that the office is open and why we have office hours.
-Senator Fairbanks announced that there is a wrestling match Wednesday at 6:00pm in Alumni Gym.
-Senator Macierowski announced that New Voices submissions are due on Feb. 1st.
-Senator Tully announced that there is a basketball game Saturday at 7:30 pm.
-Senator Batcha announced that there is a volleyball game on Sunday vs. Worcester State.
-Senator Plack reminded everyone that budget packets are due Monday, January 23rd.
Senator Cleary moved to adjourn, Senator Smith seconded, motion passed.
