MQP lab safety training sessions to be held

Safety in the laboratory is a very important aspect of the learning experience at any level. Whether you are a sophomore high school student in introductory chemistry or a seasoned microbiologist in a research lab, lab safety requires a vigilant awareness of the potential hazards which surround you, and taking steps to minimize your risk.

In an effort to enhance your understanding and awareness of these potential hazards and their risks, the WPI Campus Safety Committee is conducting three training sessions for MQP students working in labs with hazardous materials. These sessions will last approximately forty-five minutes, and will be held in Goddard Hall Room 311. They will be held on:

Wednesday, February 1st, 12:00 noon
Monday, February 6th, 4:30pm
Tuesday, February 7th, 5:30pm

The intent of this training is to provide a basic overview of a wide variety of lab safety topics, including:
Standard Operating Procedures
Chemical Hazards
Personal Protective Equipment
Laboratory Ventilation
Compressed Gas Cylinders
Hazardous Waste Management
Emergency Response

If you have any questions, please contact Dave Messier at extension 5216.
