Minutes for the meeting of January 24, 1995
Meeting held in Atwater Kent 219
I. Meeting called to order at 5:53 pm.
II. Attendance:
Executive Board: Greg Findlen, Pres.; Fiona Abrams, Vice Pres; Rachel Butland, Sect.; Don Socha, Treas.
Senate: Heather Cleary, Cathy Connelly, Ryan Daly, Nat Fairbanks, Shannon Finley, John Grossi, Lee Guthrie, Marni Hall, Ed Hallissey, Rebecca Hoffman, Seth Kintigh, Lucie Lasovsky, Jason Mickey, Amy Plack, Dave Smith, Greg Snow, Jeff Spaletta, Kristen Stagg, Tim Tully, Chizzy Uchendu, Cara Valliere, Cindy Vollaro, Joe Waln.
Absent: Joe Batcha, Deb Foley (excused), Beth Gentry, Jason Macierowski, Amy Sinyei, Shelby Walker (excused).
Parliamentarian: Jason Averill
III. Approval of Minutes: The minutes of the meeting held January 17, 1995 were approved with no amendments.
IV. Vice-Presidents Report: none
V. Secretary's Report: Secretary Butland asked the senators to please go to the office hours that they signed up for. She also reminded everyone that when they call in for their office hours the voice mail tells where they are calling from.
VI. Treasurer's Report: Treasurer Socha reminded everyone that budget packets were due today at 5:00pm. There is meeting with the hockey team about funding tomorrow from 11am-12 noon. Two clubs, autocross and pre-med/pre-vet, need to be classified.
VII. Committee Reports:
-SGA Committees
P.R.:Chair Lasovsky announced that the new meeting time is Tuesdays at 1:30pm.
P&P: Chair Snow reported that the committee will be meeting on Wednesday from 11am -12 noon in Morgan A.
Elections: Chair Waln announced that petitions are now being accepted for SGA exec. board and the three (3) senator-at-large positions. Petitions are available in the office. The petition deadline is February 1st.
CAI: Chair Fairbanks reported that there will be no motion from the committee tonight. All members of his committee please see him after the meeting.
WPI Repositioning:(formally New WPI):Chair Mickey announced that there is a meeting tomorrow at 4:30pm in Beckett.
-Institute Committees
CAO: Patrick Sullivan reported that the committee met last Friday for the beginning of C-term. CAO reviewed a CE proposal for course changes, a proposal to raise the fee for overloads to 50% per class over three (3) years, and several student petitions.
Senator Hallissey moved to suspend Robert's Rules for ten (10) minutes to allow discussion of the overload rate proposal. Senator Daly seconded. Motion passed with two (2) abstentions.
Robert's Rules were re-instated after ten (10) minutes of discussion. Patrick Sullivan asked everyone to please send him e-mail (patrick@wpi) with their opinions. CAO will be meeting again on Friday at 12:30pm in Beckett.

IX. New Business:
Motion 3c.95: Senator Plack moved to approve the decision by the Appropriations Committee to fund the Winter Carnival by transferring funds in the amount of $4996.50 from the Class III/Class IV Reserves to the Capital Reserve Account, with the stipulations that all purchases made from this account be approved by Treasurer Socha or Assistant Treasurers Connelly or Plack, and that all unused moneys be returned to the Class III/Class IV Reserve after the event.
Senator Connelly seconded. Senator Fairbanks made a friendly amendment, will now read "...this account have prior approval by Treasurer Socha...". Treasurer Socha made a friendly amendment to exclude "/Class IV". Motion now reads:
"To approve the decision by the Appropriations Committee to fund the Winter Carnival by transferring funds in the amount of $4996.50 from the Class III Reserve to the Capital Reserve Account, with the stipulations that all purchases made from this account have prior approval by Treasurer Socha or Assistant Treasurers Connelly or Plack, and that all unused moneys be returned to the Class III Reserve after the event."
Nathan Wittasek went over the schedule of events. Senator Connelly called the question. Secretary Butland seconded. Question called. Senator Connelly asked for a roll call vote. Roll call vote was taken. Motion 3c.95 passed 24-0-2.
Motion 4c.95 was dropped from the agenda.
X. Announcements:
-Senator Tully announced the Men's basketball game Wednesday night vs. Trinity. WPI is ranked tenth and Trinity is ranked fourth.
-Senator Plack asked everyone to please return the motion packets that were passed out.
-Senator Guthrie asked his committee to please see him after the meeting.
-Senator Fairbanks asked his committee to see him after the meeting. Also, there is a wrestling match on Wednesday night.
Senator Connelly moved to adjourn, Senator Smith seconded, motion passed.
XI. Meeting adjourned at 6:22pm.
