Scavenger Hunt

by Amy Palmer, Class of '96 and Kevin Shea, Class of '95
What is the WPI Trivia Scavenger Hunt, you might ask? Well, it is one of the amazingly exciting events coming up as part of the Winter Carnival, February 10 and 11. Naturally your next questions are: what are the rules, how do I enter, who can enter, and most importantly, can I win any prizes??

I ask for patience, and rest assured that all your questions will be answered in time (starting right now!). The Official Rules of the hunt will be available Friday the 10th in the Student Activities Office (all day) or at the social from 4:30 - 6:30 in Riley Commons. Clues will be distributed promptly at 8:00PM during the Open Mic Night in Riley Commons. (As a sidenote, you will be able to obtain helpful hints about some of the scavenger hunt items during the Open Mic, where two historical (but truly hilarious) skits will be presented.)

Before you go getting TOO excited about this great opportunity, there are two rules we want you to know. First, in order to participate, your team must be exactly four people (no more, no less). Second, once the hunt begins, all participants will be required to wear at least one "WPI" article of clothing, visible at all times. (Come prepared on Friday evening). The hunt will be a 24 hour affair, ending on Saturday at 8:00PM (at the Video Dance Party).

As an additional enticement, although learning some random WPI trivia should be reason enough to participate, there will be some great prizes.

First Place: $50 gift certificate to the Greendale Mall

Second Place: $25 gift certificate to the Book Store

Third Place: $15 gift certificate to Record Town

Now, you are looking at this and thinking "Aw, that's nothing..." So, we got one prize for each team member. That's right folks, FOUR prizes per group! And, for those of you who are not planning on winning the competition, more prizes might be included - such as tee shirts, pizza, and film - if they become available, of course. We will post the names of the winners in the window of the Student Activities Office by noon Tuesday, February 14th.

Be sure to be at the open mic night early. The first 30 teams to register receive their disposable camera free (we'll even pay for the developing!!!). Having a camera is essential if you wish to complete the scavenger hunt. so hey, go to the social between 4:30 and 6 PM (also in Riley Commons). Eat some pizza, drink some beer (if you are 21), chow on Ben & Jerry's and be the first in line to register for the scavenger hunt. Hope to see you there, and good luck!!
