GSO General Meeting Minutes
February 8, 1995
AK108
Meeting commenced: 11:00am
Officers Present: VP of Policy, Brian Prunier; VP of Activities and Graduate Life, Ira Vaidya; VP of Public Relations, Okoziem Eledu; Treasurer, Gregory Shearman; Secretary, Allen Martin
Officer Reports:
Ira - The trip to Peking Wok is scheduled for next Friday night (2/17) at 7:00pm. The price will be $5 for GSO members, and $6 for guests, payable in advance. An electronic reminder will be sent out to all GSO members.
Old Business:
Discussion continued on the issue of helping to fund a graduate student for travel expenses to a conference where he had a paper accepted. Concerns were raised regarding the notion of setting a precedent that would open GSO to many more such requests in the future which we may not be able to afford. It was decided that the funding for this student would be voted on as a single issue, with the assumption that discussion would continue in the future. The possibility of the GSO setting aside an annual budget as a reward to graduate students in similar situations will be included as part of this discussion.
The motion of funding this student was passed. The exact amount of funding will be determined at the next general meeting.
New Business:
Elections for new GSO officers were carried out. Congratulations to the new officers:
President: Greg Shearman, ME, shearman@wpi
VP of Policy: Brad Pope, ME, bpope@wpi
VP of Activities and Graduate Life: Peter Apollo, ME, apollop@wpi
VP of Public Relations: David Keller, ME, kellerdr@wpi
VP of Orientation: Douglas Borden, PH, dborden@wpi
Treasurer: Roy Martin, ME, remthree@wpi
The position of Secretary will be voted upon at the next general meeting.
Announcements:
Undergraduate students in the CS department have been invited to an informal interview with perspective new faculty members. GSO would like to ensure that CS graduate students are also included in such activities.
Meeting Adjourned: 11:50am
Additional Anouncements:
Congrats again to all the new officers, it's almost becoming an ME GSO. Congrats and wish you all the best in the coming year. The misunderstanding between the CS graduate students and the department has been cleared up. The graduate students were included in the activities from the onset. Somewhere along the line there was a lack of communication. Next GSO meeting will be on Wednesday, 21st February at 12 noon in AK108. New faces are always welcome.
