The SGA Issue of the Week: The food quality here at WPI

by Amy L. Plack - SGA Senator
First off, most people don't know what is going on in SGA. The minutes of our meetings don't tell you very much, and the agendas say even less. That's because these documents are really to help the senators keep track of what goes on, not the student body.

So, we've come up with a solution. In addition to publishing the minutes in Newspeak, there will be an article each week. The article will discuss at length an issue which has been brought to us by you, the students, and what we are doing to help remedy it. Change can't take place overnight, but we're planning to keep you posted on the issues that are important to you.

This week, I have chosen a big one - the issue of the food quality here at WPI.

Just about everyone you ask will tell you that the food here at WPI "sucks." I realize that is a gross generalization; the Grille isn't as bad as the cafeteria, and Founders seems to be better than Morgan. But, let's face it, the food does suck. (DISCLAIMER - I am not speaking for every senator in that paragraph; it's my opinion)

Curious as to what students really think, I talked to a few. I also saved all the postings to wpi.test regarding the food here and all the rumors that are abounding. So, I know have a mighty large file in my account, which is publicly readable: ~trek/News/daka. (It grows by the day, trust me)

I announced that I was collecting the information for the Committee on Student Life Issues through sganews and got a most interesting response. Janet Richardson, Dean of Student Life, requested that I forward her that file. I did, and sent her updates as they came through. Dean Richardson now plans to approach the Cabinet with that mighty file in hand and see what they have to say about it.

So, what is SGA doing about it? We are still gathering information, and awaiting the Cabinet's response. Dean Richardson has asked the CSLI to get ready to "roll up [our] sleeves and get dirty" with this issue, and we are ready.

We'll keep you posted on our progress - don't expect a miracle overnight. For more information on other issues CSLI is pursuing, contact the chair, Lee Guthrie, lguthrie@wpi.

Please feel free to forward all comments and questions about this column to me, trek@wpi.
