Masque to present Fahrenheit 451

by Katie Horning - Class of '96
"Fahrenheit 451" is a play by Ray Bradbury about book burning. Montag (Kyle Stephens) is a Fireman who becomes troubled with the reasoning behind book burning and tries to discover what's so wonderful about books. He meets readers and thinkers such as Clarisse (Samantha Halden) and Mrs. Hudson (Helen G. Vassallo) who intrigue him. The Fireman Captain Beatty (Michael Bleyhl) warns him against reading and explains how book burning came to be. Montag also has a wife Mildred (Christina Weissbrod) who worries about the changes he has undergone but is herself oblivious to what books can mean. In all of this, Montag finds himself torn between the Firemen and the Book people. Which will he choose?
