What is a Gingerbutkis?

by Marc Ortins - Class of '97
They're here! This Friday, Feb. 24th at 8:00 pm, Riley Commons is where you will be if you want to live up to any coolness you may attempt to portray. This pub show is a little bit different from the norm. First off, it is produced entirely by the Society of Martial Artists (SOMA). Secondly, SOMA will bring to you two things that you've been asking for. 1) You wanted to see more campus bands? You got it. GFY will be playing for the first time on this campus since last year, and in perfect time too. These five TKE brothers, Bob Fillion, Shane Hooker, Rodney Lukowski, Sean O'Shea, and Chris Haley, just put out a CD, 'Dots', on Feb. 10th. And they're gaining popularity on campus and in the Worcester area, so come down this Friday and see what the buzz is about. 2) You also asked for more diversity in how you are entertained. Well, headlining the evening is the extremely versatile and upstandingly diverse, Gingerbutkis. Gingerbutkis is a three man band which has played in the hot spots of Boston and San Francisco that will dazzle you with crazed melodies and a progressive funk like you've never heard before.

We've all got our own tastes in music, be it Jazz, Rock, Classical, or none at all, but, despite this fact I personally guarantee that if you show up on Friday night, you will not be disappointed by this breath of fresh air. You'll just have to trust me on this one. I've seen them four times myself. If your heart desires a description of this musical experience I can only say that if you combine the slant of Phish, with the funk of Primus, that would only be a good start because Gingerbutkis only sounds like Gingerbutkis. Come see for yourself.

So all you out there who think you've seen it before, or just have something better to do, allow me to say, you haven't and you don't! So skip the trip home this weekend and take a trip with 'butkis. Doors open at 8:00pm, Special guest opener at 8:15, GFY at 9:00 and Gingerbutkis 10:00. $2 wpi $3 other.
