Gordon Library open house a success

by Carmen Brown - Gordon Library, Head of Public Services
The Gordon Library hosted an open house Wednesday, February 15 from noon to 3pm. It was a good opportunity for members of the WPI community to meet the staff in a relaxed atmosphere. Over 130 people signed the guest register and over fifty people heard President Brown speak about the origins and evolution of libraries.

Library staff at the registration table gave out free pencils and calendars while encouraging people to sign up for the raffle. Additional staff helped patrons locate interesting World Wide Web sites on the 3d floor student Novells, while still other sta ff made sure that the refreshment table (homemade cookies and cold drinks) was well stocked. Members of the Instructional Media Center demonstrated their multimedia presentation, as well.

The student, faculty and staff art show attracted many visitors who had many complimentary things to say about it. People voted for their favorite piece and as a result, Eric Malo, a Mass Academy student who submitted "Flight," won a gift certificate for receiving the most votes.

Winners of the raffle include Marge Roncone and Chris Borg, who won gift certificates to the WPI Bookstore; Mary Kelley, Fiona Abrams and Laura Menides who won Gompei's gift certificates; Lanny Tjandra, who won a WPI t-shirt donated by the bookstore; Qing yun Zhang, who won a large WPI special pizza donated by Gompei's; Betty Jolie, Joseph Fehribach and Debbie Riel, who won library photocopy cards; Sharon Davis, who won a case of Coca Cola, and Cynthia Rand, who won a three pound bag of M & M's.

The library staff would like to thank those who entered the art show, and everyone who participated in the events of the day. We hope all of you enjoyed it as much as we did.
