Minutes for the meeting of February 21, 1995
Meeting held in Atwater Kent 219
I. Meeting called to order at 5:58 pm.
II. Attendance:
Executive Board: Greg Findlen, Pres.; Fiona Abrams, Vice Pres.; Rachel Butland, Sect.; Don Socha, Treas.
Senate: Heather Cleary, Cathy Connelly, Nat Fairbanks, Shannon Finley, Beth Gentry, John Grossi, Lee Guthrie, Marni Hall, Ed Hallissey, Rebecca Hoffman, Seth Kintigh, Amy Plack, Dave Smith, Greg Snow, Jeff Spaletta, Kristen Stagg, Tim Tully, Chizzy Uchendu, Cara Valliere, Cindy Vollaro, Joe Waln.
Absent: Ryan Daly, Deb Foley (excused), Lucie Lasovsky, Jason Macierowski, Jason Mickey (excused), Amy Sinyei (excused), Shelby Walker (excused).
III. Approval of Minutes:
The minutes of the meeting held February 14, 1995 were approved with the amendment that under Committee Reports: -Institute Committees the following should be added: "Presidential Search Committee: Manuel VanOordt reported on where in the process the committee is. They are currently looking at a group of about sixty (60) resumes and hoping to cut that down to about fifteen (15) or twenty (20). A full report is on file in the SGA office."
IV. President's Report:
President Findlen reported that renovations are planned for this summer. These include the Morgan meeting rooms, wedge, and lower wedge. Two students volunteers are needed for this committee. At the Trustees Meetings several topics were discussed. A new version of the Pluralism will be coming up for the Senate to accept. The budget was discussed and passed. There will be a 6.85% increase in tuition and a 5.0% increase in room and board. Janet Richardson then gave an update on the Campus Center. A presentation was made at the Trustees Meeting. A new idea is to put the campus center in Alumni Gym with new facilities being built behind Alumni and Harrington.
V. Vice-President's Report:
Vice-President Abrams reported that the Committee on Governance is discussing the running of projects. There will be a faculty meeting on February 23 at 4:05 pm in Kinnicutt Hall.
VI. Secretary's Report:
Secretary Butland asked once again that everyone who makes a report give her a written copy so that the minutes can be correct. Also, if you make or second a motion please say your last name.
VII. Treasurer's Report:
Treasurer Socha reported that there are two motions tonight, Men's Lacrosse funding and classification of the radio station.
VIII. Committee Reports:
-SGA Committees
CSLI: Chair Guthrie reported that the committee met last week. DAKA was the big issue for discussion. Two surveys were approved by the committee and will be up for approval by the senate next week. Sen. Plack reported for the sub-committee on DAKA that everyone should read the article in Newspeak. Also, there is an open meeting in Morgan Commons, this weeks issue is Gompei's and the Grille.
P&P: Chair Snow reported that the committee will be meeting on Friday at 4:30 pm.
CAI: Chair Fairbanks asked that the members of the committee please show up for the meetings. They are every Wednesday at 9:00 pm in Gompei's.
Elections: Chair Waln read the official election results. There will be a motion tonight to have them approved by the Senate. E-mail xanth@wpi with any ideas or comments about the election process. The election results are: President, Cathy Connelly; Vice-President, Kirsty Reidy; Secretary, Chizzy Uchendu; Treasurer, Greg Snow; Senators-At-Large, Jason Mickey, Jeremy Olszewski, and John Pieper.
-Institute Committees
First Year Steering: Sen. Hoffman reported that the committee is looking at a document that asks for funding for an extended orientation. See her with any ideas or questions.
Faculty Awards: Sen. Hoffman reported that the committee is going through the nominations and looking for the top ten.
CSA: Sen. Connelly reported that she sent the CSA minutes out to sganews. If you have had a special experience with advising please let her know. E-mail swathy@wpi.

Motion 15c.95- An Act to Amend the Constitution. Sen. Snow moved, Sen. Grossi seconded. Motion passed.
Motion 16c.95- An Act to Amend the Constitution. Sen. Snow moved, Sen. Smith seconded. Motion passed.
Motion 17c.95- An Act to Amend the Constitution. Sen. Snow moved, Sen. Grossi seconded. Motion passed.
Motion 18c.95- An Act to Amend the Constitution. Sen. Snow moved, Sen. Waln seconded. Motion passed.
Motion 19c.95- An Act to Amend the Constitution. Sen. Snow moved, Sen. Plack seconded. Motion passed.
Motion 20c.95- An Act to Amend the Constitution. Sen. Snow moved, Sen. Waln seconded. Motion passed.
Motion 21c.95- An Act to Amend the Constitution. Sen. Snow moved, Sen. Waln seconded. Motion passed.
X. New Business:
Motion 24c.95- Treasurer Socha moved that the Senate emergency fund the Men's Lacrosse Team $4,042.00 outlined in the following manner: Contracts $2100.00, other $1942.00. Senator Hallissey seconded. Snow proxied vote to Plack. Motion passed with four (4) abstentions.
Motion 25c.95- Treasurer Socha moved that the Radio Station be classified as a Class III organization. Senator Plack seconded. Motion passed with one (1) abstention.
Motion 26c.95- Senator Waln moved that the Senate approve the C-term elections as posted in the SGA office. Senator Cleary seconded. Senator Spaleta called for division. Motion passed.
XI. Announcements:
-Senator Fairbanks reminded everyone Wed. 9:00 pm in Gompei's. To be discussed are the Proficiency, Social Science, TA's, and Prof. Sisson's proposal.
-Senator Plack reminded everyone to go to the DAKA open meeting Wed. At 7:00 pm in Morgan Commons.
-Senator Connelly announced that anyone who is interested in being a committee chair please let her know. Present ones please write up a description of what you do.
Senator Plack moved to adjourn, Senator Smith seconded, motion passed.
XI. Meeting adjourned at 6:40 pm.
