Skull inducts seventeen new members

Skull, the organization founded in 1911 to honor administrators, faculty, staff and students for their contributions to the advancement and betterment of the university, recently inducted 17 new members.


The inductees are:

Interim President John Lott Brown '46 of Worcester, MA. Brown, who assumed his post on Nov. 1, is serving until the 14th president is selected and in office this summer. He majored in electrical engineering, then earned a master's degree in psychology from Temple University and a Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University. Brown, who is known for his research in the field of human visions, spent the last 16 years at the University of South Florida, where he was president from 1978 to 1988. A WPI trustee emeritus, he received the Robert H. Goddard Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement in 1969 and was the Commencement speaker in 1984, when he received an honorary doctor of science degree.

W. A. Bland Addison Jr., of Worcester, MA, associate professor of history. Addison, who joined the faculty in 1986, earned his B.A. at the University of South Carolina, his M.A. at the University of Virginia, and his M.Phil and Ph.D. at Columbia University. His scholarly interests focus on the social and cultural history of France. He is active in several programs that promote cultural diversity and awareness in the Worcester and WPI communities and was among the honorees cited this summer by the Worcester Area Rainbow Coalition and Clergy and Laity Concerned for efforts to support the nonviolent struggle of the South African people to end apartheid.

Giacomo P. (Jack) Ferraro Jr., of Leicester, MA, principal lab machinist in the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering departments. Ferraro has worked at WPI for 22 years.


Skull also tapped the following students:

Ernest (Ernie) Ansah, a mechanical engineering with biomedical interests major for Worcester, MA. He is vice president of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and captain of the football team.

Jason Averill, a civil engineering major from Katy, TX. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and the Committee on Academic Policy. He is also a resident advisor and the parliamentarian of the Student Government Association.

Jannine Copponi, a biotechnology major from Marshfield, MA, as well as a resident advisor and a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and the Women's Chorale.

Justin Cutroni, a mechanical engineering with aerospace interests major from Belmont, MA, who is also a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and president of the Interfraternity Council. He is a member of the Student Alumni Society and an Orientation assistant.

Cyndi Fusco, a civil engineering major from West Haven, CT, who is a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority and Chi Epsilon, the civil engineering honor society, a delegate to the Panhellenic Association, vice president of the Newman Club, and a member of the Student Alumni Society.

Karen Goodell, a chemical engineering major from York, ME, president of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, an Orientation Leader, and a member of the Charles O. Thompson Honor Society, Masque, the Student Alumni Society and the Women's Chorale.

Philip Gunning, a mechanical engineering major from Keene, NH and president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Justin Holwell, a mechanical engineering major from Roseau, MN, a member of the Campus Hearing Board and the Student Alumni Society. He is a former member of the wrestling team and a former captain of the crew team.

Jeff Kijack, a mechanical engineering major from Chicopee, MA, president of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and a member of the Charles O. Thompson and Tau Beta Pi honor societies and the basketball team.

Brian Klauber, a civil engineering major from Nashua, NH, a member of the Theta Chi fraternity and the Student Alumni Society and a student hall director. He is the son of Douglas (Dusty) Klauber '67, and the nephew of Robert Klauber '67, who were also members of Skull.

Amy Palmer, a biotechnology major from Holden, MA, and a former president of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. She is a resident advisor, a campus tour guide and the crew team's coxswain, as well as a member of the Student Alumni Society and the WPI Women's Chorale. She is will be a student hall director next fall.

Jesse Parent, a computer science major from Somerset, MA, a member of Theta Chi fraternity, Masque, the Improv Group and a resident advisor.

Bryan Pepin, a chemical engineering major from Westbrook, ME and president of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Noah Weisleder, a biotechnology major from East Corinth, ME, president of Masque who recently directed the production of Fahrenheit 451. He is a member of Lens & Lights and the Fencing Club.
