WPIR is planning to make the housing lottery a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved. In past years, there have been enough people in the wedge to make it unbearably hot. "Since we didn't know what number they were up to, we would have to get there really early. We'd usually end up waiting around for hours," said one senior. "It's boring," complains one junior. This year, WPIR hopes that people will tune in to Channel 38 to find out what number was last called. This will hopefully give people more of an idea of how long it will be until their number is called.
In order to help people decide what rooms they can pick from, WPIR will be updating listeners as to what rooms have been taken. This should help people decide ahead of time where they want to live next year.
The station will not only be keeping people updated of rooms and numbers; they plan to have live interviews with some housing lottery participants and officials. WPIR will also be giving out gift certificates to some lucky individuals. Each gift certificate can be turned in for a free FM splitter from WPIR. The splitters will be available when WPIR starts broadcasting at 90.1 FM on cable later this term.
Shows on WPIR which are pre-empted for this event will return to their regular slots next week.
