April 13 is Traditions Day!

by Carl Shimer - Class of '97
Tradition Day, sponsored by the Student Alumni Society, celebrates WPI's traditions and unique heritage. This year, Traditions Day will start with a candlelight vigil on the quad on Wednesday evening (April 12th). All members of the WPI community are encouraged to take part in this event and listen to the Tech Old Timers at the Higgins House afterwards. The Tech Old Timers paint a fascinating picture of how life at WPI has changed over the years. Thursday April 13 will feature events throughout the day. If you are interested in the history of WPI, check out the exhibits of WPI in years past. If you are musically inclined or just looking for a good time, come and participate in the Alma Mater contest on Thursday night.

Freshmen! Traditions day is your chance to redeem yourself from your humiliating defeat at the rope pull. Last year, the Freshmen class trounced the Sophomores at the pennant rush. This is your chance! Beware though, the pennant rush is not for the weak-hearted. If you are lucky, you can also come home with a t-shirt and a bunch of WPI pennants. If you are more academically inclined, come to the Jeopardy game. Test your knowledge of WPI lore against the Sophomores. Study up on the Tech Bible and prove that you are superior to the Sophomores! Sophomores, we won the rope pull this year and demonstrated our class strength in the pennant rush and Jeopardy game last year. Make sure that we don't let our class down.

Keep an eye out for other announcements as we approach Traditions Day. Please also remember that by participating in Traditions Day, you are reaffirming WPI's identity and heritage.
