Club Corner
Alpha Phi Omega
Hey all you OI-sters! It me again, your friendly over-worked, over-stressed publicity chair sending you your weekly message of good cheer. I hope everyone is sticking it out 'cause there isn't a lot of time left!! We have LOTS and LOTS of service stuff coming up: Mustard Seed, UMOC, Organ Donor cards, Blood Drive, Service to Students. Contact Sarah (max@wpi) if you want to find out more info on all this stuff.... The pledge class service project has been decided....Earth Day Park Cleanup! That will be on the 22nd, so mark your calendars! This weekend we had a little ice cream social at Benny's. I'm sure this went really well for all the people who showed up. You had also better hope you emailed jodi@wpi your birthday, or you might miss out on all the good cards and stuff!! There are lots of things going on....so be sure to show up to the meeting (same bat time, same bat channel) to make sure YOU are being kept up to speed with what is going on in APO-land!!
ASME
The transfer of power has begun. This is my first article as the new President of ASME so bear with me. First of all I'd like to thank Mark for the whole 24hr notice he gave me to write this thing. Next, I just want to welcome aboard the three other officers: the VP Josh Binder, the Treasurer Cindy Mitchell, and the Secretary John Stewart. Which by the way reminds me, Stewart, anytime you'd like to get in touch with me feel free to give me your email address or phone #. As it stands right now, I wouldn't know who you were if you walked in front me. All looks pretty quiet for the homestretch since we really don't have anything planned.
We have big plans for next year--we don't have a clue what they are, but yes, we do have some. Stay tuned!!!! To the Seniors, hope the Mass. Certification (engineering license) Exam went well this past weekend. That's all for now--talk to you next week!
Bacchus
Allright, welcome to the Bacchus club corner! For those of you just joining us, this term is off to a great start. We finally figured out where we're gonna go this spring: On Saturday April 22, anyone who is in Bacchus is invited to go on a day trip to Riverside Park! Come to a meeting for more info, ok? Also, plans for the fall orientation are moving along, I think Eric said that there were three 3-D movies to choose from - but I forgot what they are. Sorry. More on that later. Oh, by the way, the annual Bacchus lunch is Wednesday April 19, at 12:00 in Higgins House. That's right, not one, but TWO fun things to do this month if you're in Bacchus! Now for other news: Tim, sorry man, but President Sue gave the free Bacchus clothes and hats item the axe. We tried to stop her... by the way Tim, where were you Tuesday? Melrose Place isn't on at 6:30, is it? Heather, the sauce was purple, period. Mocktails on the quad, from 7:00 to 11:00. Any volunteers to help move the bar? Anyone, anyone... You know what we need? A mocktail coordinator person, to organize events where non-alcoholic drinks are made. What a great idea! I know what you're thinking - forget it, I'm publicity now. Ah yes, and finally the results of last week's trivia question - we either have 7, 2 or 5 bottles of peach. Thanks to everyone for their answers! See you tonight!
Chinese Students Association
Hello all! Welcome...to yet another club corner in a little corner of the universe. Alrighty, let's get down to business....
First off, a big round of applause and great huge thanks go out to those that performed (Kaki and her cousin & friend), brought in their prized possessions for display, set things up, managed our tables, cleaned up, brought friends and family, or did anything else to help with the CSA effort at the Cultural Fest. Thanks a lot, people...everything went smoothly because of you ...hope everyone had a good time as well. Let's do it all over again next year (hopefully our famous Dragon will be back with 'replacement' surgery done on its body and we'll all be ready show our moves).
Next up...sports news.... As you all know, Floor Hockey, Soccer, and Softball are going on right now...the teams are working hard, but need your support! Floor Hockey...pats on the back go out to Zung, Torsten, and Man Ching - our superb no-need-for-subs offensive line - for a great game played; slobbering kisses go out to Antonio, Chris, and Eric - our hard-working defense - for giving everything they've got and playing great D; and a great big bear hug goes out to 'Auggie' - our fantastically awesome goalie - for being the human puck stopper and making all those great plays...thanks guys! Soccer...thanks to all those brave guys that showed up to play that freezing night (though we didn't get to play...it's the thought that counts)...brrr. Softball...also thanks to everyone that showed up to play...maybe next time our opponents will be there as well. Everyone...COME TO IM GAMES...please.... Oh, and there should be a sign-up sheet going around for the intramural Track Meet in the near future...think about signing up.
Well, the term in office for your 1994-1995 officers have officially ended after the Cultural Fest. Thanks to everyone for a great year and for making everything worthwhile. Take care, y'all. Later.
Peace & God Bless....
Christian Bible Fellowship
Wow, another week has flown by! You might get the feeling that you are at an airport. But no matter how fast the term goes or how much work that is to do, we must always remember the hope that we have in Christ. This Wed, Prayer and Share will be meeting in Morgan A at 8pm. If you missed the last one, come and find out all of the prayers that God has been answering, an experience that you should see for yourself. FNF will again be in Morgan A at 7pm this Fri. Sports will be Sat at 10:30am outside Alumni Gym. And before I forget, so that you won't, CBF will be having a Tues. Night Workshop in two weeks. Be on the look out for information to follow..
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." (Galatians 5:1 NIV) Are there things in your life that you feel are chaining you down? Perhaps your school work or a relationship has left you feeling trapped with no place to go. Jesus wants to free you from bondage. The first line of this verse tells us that Christ has set us free! And why did He set us free? He gives us freedom! Isn't that wonderful? Are you ready to live in freedom? Are you ready to leave the yoke behind? Jesus is ready to show you the way..
ISC
Well, how is everybody doing today? You must be doing great after that wonderful weekend, right? Of course I'm talking about the Cultural Festival - what else would make up a great weekend? I know I'm writing this before the day, but I know it is going to be awesome. Thank you to everybody who participated and all those of you who came and enjoyed yourselves...Everybody who had anything to do with it (including the audience) deserves a pat on the back - so go right ahead, and give yourself one, if you deserved it!
Well, what are we up to next, you may ask? Next, the ISC is planning an event to close the year with - a social among all the members of ISC and member clubs...so keep your ears tuned and keep reading this article in Newspeak to find out about the details...
Till, next time - be cultured!
Masque
Hullo there! New Voices 1-3 is well underway. Performances begin only one week away in the Great Hall of Alden, April 19th-22nd. We still need help with production. Any able-bodied people who wish to look cool in all-black and walk around in the dark should contact reaper@wpi to be on running crew. For more information on NV 1-3 contact lissa@wpi. MW Rep is now in the process of choosing the A term show. Any suggestions should be submitted to kat@wpi. Any of you crazy people graduating this year before next A term please email hambone@wpi of this oddity. Just remember: You can NEVER escape! Well, see y'all on Friday at 4:30pm in the Green Room just behind the Alden stage.
National Society of Pershing Rifles
This weekend, we had a small color guard at the Worcester Commons. Hopefully, everything went and looked great. Just a reminder on the other color guards coming up -- we need people for the sabre guard on 30 April as well as the color guard for 23 April (this may change).
For those who have not yet done so, get your money in ASAP! (NLT this Wednesday, 12 April).
Pledges (those who still remain): Good job on getting your project done; I'm glad you didn't wait further on it. Now for your paddles - make them look as good as or better than your project. Also, GET YOUR SIGNATURES!! Time is running short.
HUA!
Society of Women Engineers
Our last meeting was held on Tuesday, April 4th...sorry if you got an incorrect time and/or date in your mailbox (3/16!!). We discussed several topics including an interesting IQP proposal from Prof. Terwilliger, the Stratus Co. tour, candy sales, and a possible overnight program with girl scouts at either the Science Center in Worcester or the Museum of Science in Boston. Anyone interested in attending this year's SWE national convention in Boston should contact Marie at johny@wpi. We have received corporate funding that may be put towards this convention, as well as any outreach programs we have next year. Our next and final meeting of D-term will be on Tuesday, April 18th at 7pm in OH126.
