Club Corner

Alpine Ski Team

Freshmen, welcome to WPI. By now you have probably discovered the horrors of DAKA and orientation, and are wondering if there is anything at this school that is fun to do. Well there is.....it is the WPI Alpine Ski Team.

The ski team is an excellent way to meet people at this school, meet people at other schools and an even better way to ski cheap. If you are an Olympic caliber skier, or just someone who has never skied in gates before, you're welcome join the ski team. All you need is a love of skiing and a few hours a week to spend at practices. In return, if you make the team you will get five free weeks of lodging at some of the Northeast's best ski destinations, plus free lift tickets. In addition to that you will also recieve weekly on snow practices, for usually ten bucks a night, with a well trained coaching staff.

Dry land practices usually start in B term, they consist of a few basic exercises and drills and are a great way to earn PE credit. If you would like more info, keep reading the club corner or feel free to call me at 756-1675 (ask for Nordberg).

BiLAGA

The Bisexual, Lesbian, and Gay Alliance is an educational and support group based on the WPI campus. We will be having our first meeting of the year on Wednesday, September 6th, at 8pm. We encourage all our members, old and new, to attend this meeting as we will be discussing upcoming events such as our dance, elections for new officers, and preparations for National Coming Out Day.

Please contact us if you have any questions, suggestions, or if you just want to talk to someone. Privacy will be respected. Meetings are held once every other week.

Send us mail if you want more information about this week's meeting, or wish to be on our mailing list. We can be reached at bilaga@wpi. In the meantime, good luck with classes, everyone!

Deutsch Klub

To all those who are interested in the German language or culture, the Deutsch Klub is for you.

This club sponsors dinners, get-togethers, museum trips, and gives those learning German practice in speaking. This club, however, is not only for those currently studying German. German-speaking exchange students, German-speaking Professors, or previous students of German are also welcome.

The first Stammtisch meeting will be September 1, at 12 noon in Gompei's. All those interested are encouraged to come and indulge in the German conversation.

Society for Medieval Arts and Sciences

Here we are again, at the beginning of another year. Did everyone go to events this year? Did everyone get killed a lot? And if you didn't, why not?

All right. At the end of last year, we elected new officers. They are:

President: Sean Veale

Vice President: Ryan Coffren

Treasurer: Jason Sykes

Secretary: Kris Shepard

SMAS now has an computer account. If you wish to address the officers of the club over e-mail, please send mail to realms@wpi, and rest assured that we will answer it in a day or so. If you wish to reach EVERYONE in SMAS, send e-mail to smas@wpi. A special note to everyone who signed up at the Activities Fair: Your name and e-mail address will now be put onto this mailing list. If you do not wish to receive mail from us, please tell us now.

The Queen of Hearts event was this past weekend....who went? Who survived going into the Hot Place, and made it out again?

Ray Roberts is throwing an event on the weekend of October 8. There will be much questing, and even a small feast thrown by a novice feast giver. This is to give everyone plenty of notice, so they can be recruited for being an NPC or whatnot.

Practices are going to be Monday and Thursday nights at 7:30, upon the Quad or an empty athletic field, and all are welcome to attend.
