As in the past, the class was divided into orientation "small groups," which met several times throughout the orientation period. Heading these groups were 27 orientation leaders and two orientation assistants, as well as the Director and Assistant Director for Student Activities, Christopher Jachimowicz and Andrea Dorow.
Among the social activities planned during orientation was Playfair!, an ice breaker involving the entire class, back for the fourth year in a row. During Playfair!, the students learned that they have something in common with everyone, no matter how different, as well as how to dance back-to-back.
The Global Rhythm Tour stopped at WPI on Sunday night, giving new students the unique opportunity to make music together. That same night, Bacchus hosted "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," and gave away free T-shirts so that laundry day would come a little less sooner.
Thanks to the WPI Social Committee, comedian Gary De Lena graced Alden Hall on Monday night, entertaining a full house, including the balcony. Tuesday night's Mix Nite, sponsored by Bacchus, was also a success, as a good number showed up to dance the night away and win the door prizes, which included more T-shirts, a CD player, and a television.
By the end of the term, the events of 1995 New Student Orientation will be a blur, as the new students get adjusted to life here at WPI. One of the last events, hosted by the Orientation Leaders, was a series of skits entitled "Can We Talk." Despite the fact that only a few of the OLs possessed any previous acting experience, the stories they told about campus life and possible scenarios were well-done and well-received.
Congratulations to the entire orientation staff for a job well done, and welcome once again to the Class of 1999.
