Minutes for the meeting of September 5, 1995
Meeting held in the Lower Wedge
I. Meeting called to order at 6:00pm.
II. Attendance:
Executive Board: Cathy Connelly, President; Kirsty Reidy, Vice President.; Chizzy Uchendu, Secretary; Greg Snow, Treasurer.
Senate: Alfred Andrade, Paula Brezniak, Heather Cleary, Shelly Ann Cote, Ryan Daly, Simba Dut-Mazumbar, Shannon Finley, Matt Freimuth, Beth Gentry, Marni Hall, Ed Hallissey, Rebecca Hoffman, Seth Kintigh, Michael Marks, Jason Mickey, Amy Plack, Kristen Stagg, Tim Tully, Cindy Vollaro.
Absent: Jeremy Olszewski (excused), John Pieper, Dave Smith, Jeff Spaleta.
Parliamentarian: Jennx Yambert (acting Parliamentarian)
III. President's Remarks:
President Connelly announced that there will be a motion tonight to confirm her appointment of Justin Sprague and Adam Woodbury as senators. Furthermore, if you know any students interested in becoming senators, please let her know. She also reported that she appointed Marni Hall as the student Rep. on the Committee on Governance (COG) and she will appoint one more individual. The two representatives will go to COG meetings when invited.
IV. Vice-President's Remarks:
Vice-President Reidy announced that there are six open senatorial positions, that she is working on SGA office rules and she is working on setting a date for the SGA senatorial retreat. She will have an orientation for all new Senators early this week. She further announced that artwork is needed for "First Night Worcester" and the "Worcester Collegefest" is Sept. 23rd. Contact her for more information.
V. Secretary's Remarks:
Secretary Uchendu made no remarks.
VI. Treasurer's Remarks:
Treasurer Snow discussed photocopier concerns. He stated that his Office Hours are to be posted in the SGA office. In those hours he will deal with students concerns regarding the Treasury. If you need to see him but can't make his office hours you can make an appointment. He discussed intentions for a meeting of all Student Organization Treasurers. At this meeting, training on financial procedure will take place.
VII. Committee Reports:
Policies and Procedures: Ex Officio Chair Reidy Reported that P&P has a list of items to work on and a meeting will be planned soon.
Note: Vice-President Reidy is the interim chair because the Chair Jeremy Olszewski is away in London.
Committee on Student Advising:
Committee Representative Craig Hansen reported that CSA held its first meeting on Aug. 30, 1995. They established goals/priorities for the upcoming academic year. They also discussed the possibilities of dividing CSA into two subcommittees: one to focus on Academic Advising and the other on Student life. Possible issues CSA may deal with for the 1995-96 academic year included: creation of an Academic Information System, academic honesty, the quality of advising, safety/alcohol issues, and campus creed. The next meeting is Tuesday, September 12.
Committee on Student Advising:
Committee Representative Rachel Butland reported that the Minor in Law an Technology at WPI was approved by CAO on September 1st. Now it needs to go before the faculty. VIII. New Business:
Motion 1a.95 - Senator Plack moved to confirm the senatorial appointments made by President Connelly as stated in the Presidents remarks. Senator Finely seconded. Motion Passed.
IX. Announcements
Vice-President Reidy congratulated the newly appointed senators. She also mentioned interest in miniature Golf on the Quad during Homecoming.
President Connelly mentioned that all senators are now eligible for elections committee.
X. Meeting adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
