Nuclear facility will honor former professor

On Saturday, Oct. 14, WPI's Nuclear Reactor Facility will be renamed to Leslie C. Wilbur Nuclear Reactor Facility to honor the man who guided the fortunes of one of the first on-campus small training reactors through its first 28 years. Former students, faculty and professional colleagues in the nuclear industry will gather to formally recognize Professor Emeritus Wilbur's many contributions not only to the WPI facility which will bear his name but also to the cause of nuclear power throughout the world. Wilbur, who retired in 1987, is widely recognized as one of the most articulate spokesmen for nuclear energy.

The reactor facility will be open for tours from 11am to 4pm on Oct. 14. The official ceremonies will begin at 5:30pm in Founders Hall; dinner and the evening program will follow. John A. Mayer, associate professor of mechanical engineering, is coordinating the program.
