WPI is a wonderfully electronic-savvy school that has utilized e-mail and the World-Wide-Web to create an electronic closure. I am sad to say that the televisions in Morgan Commons' DAKA are not a positive addition. The sets are passive electronic junk food.
The onslaught of the televisions in Riley and Morgan have forced me to eat soundbites with my meals. While DAKA seems to have improved appreciably over my time here, television has not! When is it possible to have a moment of peace, with only unrehearsed ruminations filling the air? The sound of life around us, no matter how quiet or loud enlightens. Does anyone remember the beauty of the individual conversations coalescing into a buddhist-monk-like choral?
Is one's life enriched staring at The Price Is Right? Does Jenny Jones deserve more attention than we pay our professors? I have enjoyed television alot for its numbing qualities and continue to when on vacation. But WPI is meant to be a meeting-of-the-minds. Alot of education is sharing thoughts in a lucid environment. The calculated qualities of television bring a contrived air that stunts mind-sharing. The cynicisms and idealisms of your peers should be embraced now. ANYONE CAN WATCH THE JUNK ON TELEVISION, not everyone can enjoy the experience of WPI.
