Club Corner
Alpine Ski Team
Hey Everybody! Feel that nip in the air? It's getting cold! And that means SNOW! In fact, we even had snow out in western Massachusetts last weekend, and we had the Snow guns out to cover the slopes in Cummington. Now that we're two weeks into the term, It's time to start thinking about camp. Camp this year will be at Burke Mountain, home of the Burke Skiing Academy. Time to start thinking about hitting up your parents for cash or actually doing some work to pay for it. Camp is open to anyone, even people who haven't been attending dryland this year, so email joeyc@wpi for more details or stop by at Dryland.
Dryland Practices are being held Monday to Friday at 4:40 pm. Stop by in front of Harrington then to meet the team. It's important to be in shape when we finally hit the slopes.
Finally, thanks to all who came by to help make our Ski Sale a sucesss. Especially the members who helped out during the day. Plant Services, Event Planning, and our Vendors, Shi Haus and Sport Loft.
Dryland!!!!
Christian Bible Fellowship
We are smack dab in the middle of B95. Things are busy, and it gets dark early. This is not a reason to distress. Jesus loves you, and will take care of you if you let Him. Don't let yourself be bogged down by classes and work, but rather focus on the Lord.
Join us Friday evening as we do just that. At 7:00pm in Morgan A is Friday Night Fellowship. This is a time for singing songs of praise, laying burdens at the Lord's feet, learning about His word, and having fellowship with other believers. Again, that's FNF 7:00pm, Friday, Morgan A. Then on Saturday morning at 10:30 in front of Alumni, meet for sports (it'll probably be something indoors).
In Colossians, Paul writes "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." (Colossians 4:2 (NIV). There is a great need for each of us to devote ourselves to prayer. Prayer helps us to focus on God. Keeping our eyes on Him allows us to see what He is trying to show us, and to better realize everything He has given us already. It also lets us talk directly to God so that we can be forgiven for our sins, and can ask Him to help us with our needs. I urge each of you to pray more diligently; to devote yourself to improving your prayer time each day.
CSA
Hello everybody! Welcome to another edition of the CSA Club Corner, brought to you by the Chinese Student Association. How is everybody doing, in this chilly November weather? Only about one and a half weeks left till Thanksgiving break! Personally, I can't wait until I get to go home and party. Anyways, there will be an interesting CSA event taking place this Wednesday. Does anyone know what it is? You better! It's been posted in your mail for the last couple of days. For those of you who don't read your mail, but read Newspeak, it is the CSA Treasure hunt. This will take place on November 15, which is a Wednesday, at 6:30 pm. It will start at the Lower Wedge and end at wherever your clues bring you. Why do this? First of all, its really, really fun, and second of all, you get prizes for being the first, second or third team to complete the complicated puzzle.
Arggh, I'm running out of time! I need to get this in to Newspeak by 4:30, but it doesn't help if your professor decides to let you out of class at 4:00! But hey, who am I to argue? I hope our president won't kill me for writing such a short article. Oh by the way last time I said that there were 30 people at the meeting, but I was wrong. The correct number of people, as someone pointed out was 42 people. I am very sorry for the inconvience, and I will see you guys next week.
International Student Council
Did you think that the ISC WWW page was not too functional? Well, now you cannot complain about it anymore. http://www.wpi.edu/~isc has a new look! - friendly and cute.
Here is a note to the international clubs: please, please contact Tom Thomsen *soon* to give him the information on the food you are going to have at the International Dinner. If you don't see him soon, Tom will be forced to come and harass you at your own homes (with us ISC officers right behind him)...so PLEASE!!!!
Thanksgiving is coming up. We know that many (almost all) international students stay on campus during this holiday. Therefore, if you want to share this experience with an American family, you can spend Thanksgiving day with a mutually interested family. All you have to do is drop by the Student Life Office, and ask Janice about this.
Other than that, this time we are not gonna have the longest article in Club Corner because we don't have much to say. Just a reminder about the bi-weekly ISC meeting, it IS tomorrow Wed 15.
Bye.
Lens and Lights
Another week and another bit of sanity lost. Henry V is taking up most of my time, and so I don't think that this article will be very long, or very comprehensible. Anyway, I seem to be doing two jobs now, pres. and vice-pres, at least for this week. I hope everyone is still happy. Reminder, meetings at 4:30 in AK 232, execs. at 3:30 in Beckett Conference room. Go see Henry V. I've lost enough sleep over it to warrant everyone attending.
Newman Club
The Newman Club's pasta and video night was a great success. One former member came over a 150 miles to see former friends, enjoy John D's great Italian cooking plus the video "Dead Poets' Society". This former member also came to see that Carrie would be at the meeting while her roommates arranged the birthday party for her in Founders' Hall. The next big event is our trip to LaSallette to see the Christmas lights followed by supper at Wright's Chicken Farm. Cost for the bus and the meal is only five dollars. Sign up soon gang as tickets are going fast. E-mail Fr S (@priest) or Becky Prince (@bprince) if you wish to go. The date is Tuesday, Dec.5th and we leave from the campus at 5pm. Becky Prince represented our club at the Diocesan Ministry Days on Oct 10 & 11, so over 1300 people heard about WPI as well as what our club does on campus. After all we got to help spread the word about WPI and what are fine place it is. On Sunday, Nov.5th the Club resumed our nursing home ministry at Salisbury Nursing Home. Hopefully we will do it every Sunday from now to the end of the school year. Our Executive Board meeting was this past Monday night, November 13th. On December 10th we will have our annual Christmas Mass that night followed by our annual Christmas party. Finally our famous Italian cook, John D. , proved that his cooking is better than DAKA. At least Jim Palvat told him that the young ladies from Riley IV are claiming that. So John is walking around these days like he is a real chef. Jim and Ryan want more pasta nights on Friday nights so that they can bring some very special guests. We will see about that.
Pre-Law Society
MEETING!! MEETING!! Yes, it has been two weeks already! There will be a lunch meeting tomorrow, Wednesday the 15th at 12:00 in Gompei's. If you can't find us in the main portion of Gompei's we will probably be in Riley Commons.
I've found a web page with links to different law schools. The address is http://www.yahoo.com, follow the links that involve education. I followed the links to USC and it had course descriptions, info about the school, info on the profs. that teach certain courses etc. I didn't have much time to look at any others.
Reminders: Tuesday, Dec. 5, 4:30, patent attny. Jody McClean will be here. Minor approved. Law school software available in Prof. Rissmiller's office. This Saturday is open house for WNEC. BU tours every Friday. Meeting tomorrow. I'll see everyone there!!!
SWE
Hi SWE members. I hope that everyone is doing well out there. Right now the biggest thing we have going on is the Mr. WPI Pageant. Anyone interested in helping with any of the details can let us know by emailing swe@wpi. Our next meeting is going to be held November 16th. We will be discussing the pageant, as well as the next Girl Scout Day scheduled for the 18th. A reminder will be sent out before the meeting. Any one who is still looking for registration forms can also email swe to let us know and we will get one to you. I hope that everyone has a good week and we'll see you soon.
