The Class of 1879 Prizes, one of WPI's oldest and most prestigious undergraduate awards, were originally presented for the best essays written in composition class. The Class of 1879 established the award at their reunion in 1900. Since 1983, the Class of 1879 Prizes have been given in recognition of the most outstanding work done in the Humanities and Arts Sufficiency project.
