A couple of concerns have been raised about some information in last week's issue of Newspeak.
First, our apologies to Professor Griffin, who is an excellent teacher in the Department of Social Science and Policy Studies, not the Department of Mechanical Engineering as has been previously stated in the Newspeak article regarding tenure decisions and last week's editorial.
We would also like to extend our apologies to Andrea Dorrow. Last week, Newspeak printed a Greek Corner which addressed, in a rather scathing tone, recent decisions about alcohol supported by the Greek Alumni Council and the Intrafraternity Council. Newspeak stands by its decision to print the submitted column on the basis that it discussed a relevant issue concerning the community. Newspeak's philosophy on the Greek Corner submissions is that each submission reflects the fraternity which writes it; the submissions are in no way Newspeak's reporting or opinion. For the Greek Corner, Newspeak simply serves as the vehicle by which fraternities may make themselves known to the community. Therefore, we will not remove a submission because we think it would make a fraternity look bad; if that's what they submit to us (i.e., if that's how they want to be known), that's what we will print (within limits). Complaints about any Greek Corner submissions should be brought up with the fraternity in question, not Newspeak, unless the complaint is specifically newspaper related.
