Double standards at Homecoming

To the Editor,

In last week's issue of Newspeak, Ben Fischer asked the question, What is Homecoming all about? I would like to congratulate Ben on raising this important issue in a public forum like Newspeak.

I have not attended Homecoming for several years because as a Student Life administrator I felt extremely uncomfortable being confronted with the double standards which Mr. Fischer observed at the last Homecoming.

WPI seeks the participation of families, alumni, fraternities, sororities and all other groups on campus to provide a climate of responsibility in which respect for the law, models of appropriate behavior, and mutual help can be fostered.

The above statement is taken verbatim from the WPI Statement on Drugs and Alcohol and I for one do not intend to participate in Homecoming until I feel assured that we as a community will attempt to follow the spirit of our own policy.
