The Social Web: Your complete source of campus and community information!

by Greg Snoddy - Student Activities Office

As a new member of the WPI community, I've been introduced to a tremendous source of information on the academic and social activities occurring at WPI, and soon at all consortium schools - The Social Web! The potential is so great, I want to make sure the WPI community is aware of this wonderful resource.

Developed by Troy Thompson, a WPI graduate and member of the College Computer Center, and supported by the Civil Engineering Department's web server, the Social Web can aptly be called the one-stop academic and social gathering place. This is where you can find out about campus and consortium lectures, meetings, films, social gathering, and other opportunities for involvement both on and off campus. The benefits of this web page are terrific... all of us have the opportunity and ability to advertise our activities, thereby gaining free and easy publicity!

With all the activities occurring on campus everyday, this page should be packed - you can look and see what is happening today, or this week. Yet, at this time, few are taking advantage of this excellent publicity. The Student Activities Offices encourages all members of the campus community to visit the page at http://cee.wpi.edu/Social/ on a daily basis; we're going to post as many academic and social events we are aware of!

In closing let me say that Saturday evening brought to WPI and the 10th Annual Pops Concert, featuring members of our local and campus community. The concert was well attended, highly enjoyable, and... posted on the Social Web!
