Hold Club Corners up to the same standards

To the Editor,

This is in regards to the "Simple Harmonic Motion" Club Corner entry. This club corner entry exemplified almost all of the reasons why the Greek Corner was discontinued.

The Greek Corner was removed from publication for multiple reasons including vague inside jokes and the defamation of and negative references to other groups. The Simple Harmonic Motion Corner demonstrated each of these qualities to a greater extent than any Greek Corner entry. Alden Voices and women (in general), are just some of the victims of this entry. The entire section is just one vague inside joke and the only information that I could pull out of there is that they are having rehearsals for some performance, no mention as to when, where, or why.

All of the other entries are exactly as they should be, informative and understandable to the entire student body. I do not deny that a number of the Greek Corners contained inappropriate content and that is why they were abandoned; there were also a few greek organizations that were providing information about the activities of their house, as well as, what they were doing for and with the community. Every greek organization was banned from publishing in Newspeak because of a few groups who could not take things seriously and realize the benefits of being published every week.

There are only two real solutions to this problem:

1. Ban the club corner for the same reasons why the greek corner was banned.

2. Reinstate the greek corner and provide a set of guidelines that should be followed when submitting an entry. These guidelines would apply to both the Greek Corner and the Club Corner.

Obviously the first solution is very impractical and would do nothing to better the WPI community. The second choice would allow us all to be heard in Newspeak and let the WPI student body know what is going on in their community. This would be a benefit to us all and would hopefully stimulate the interest of the student body in all forms of campus activity from the Glee Club to Christian Bible Fellowship to Fraternities and Sororities.

Sincerely, Brian S. Wilson, Vice President Phi Sigma Kappa
