For many years, the students of WPI have been pushing for a common area on campus where student organizations could meet, students could get something to eat, and relax from the daily stresses of college life. As the years passed, plans were drawn up to incorporate a student center into new buildings, but as situations changed and classes graduated, plans changed, and a true student center at WPI has yet to be constructed after over sixty years of planning.
Recently, as space on campus has become a very precious and rare commodity for both student organizations and academic departments, the push for a campus center has gained priority amongst the student body and in the administration. For this week's Person on the Street, we asked students what they thought of the construction of a new campus center, and what they would like to see in it:
"More parking spaces" -Bernie
"We've already got mailboxes, we've already got gyms" -Chris
"This school needs a little bit more of a social attitude somewhere you can go between classesjust so you don't have to go off campus" -Antonio Oses
"It should be a central place for all of the clubs, so if someone wanted to go to say, the Masque office, it'd be right there" -Steve Siegmond
