WPI's Interfraternity Council (IFC) received six awards at the Northeast Interfraternity Conference (NEIFC) and the Northeast Panhellenic Conference (NEPC) in Cherry Hill, NJ last week. IFC President Conan Buzby '00, from Salcha, Alaska; Sarah Snow, '00, Panhel President from Holden, Mass.; Jessica Lowell '99, of West Boylston, Mass., from Alpha Gamma Delta and Jeevandhar Ramapriya '98 of Billerica, Mass., from Lambda Chi Alpha, represented WPI. The event drew more than 700 Panhel and IFC leaders from throughout the Northeast.
Each year NEIFC honors outstanding councils in the region as a way of encouraging interfraternity councils to aspire to high standards of excellence in a wide range of activities. "At the closing banquet of the conference our IFC received six awards," says Andrea Dorow, assistant director for student activities. "These awards are given to outstanding IFCs in their size categories. WPI is in Division 1: schools with 2-12 fraternity chapters."
This year, WPI won programming excellence awards in five of the eight categories: community service, leadership and educational development, academic achievement, self governance and judicial affairs, and risk reduction and management. Additionally, WPI's IFC received the Lunsford Award of Excellence for overall achievement. This is the second consecutive year that WPI has received this award, which is named for Larry Lunsford, the NEIFC's first executive director.
