The Pi Zeta Chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity hosted the 1998 Northeast Regional Leadership Conclave during the weekend of March 13 through 15, 1998. The participants consisted of chapters throughout the Northeast, including WPI, Boston University, MIT, U Mass-Amherst, RPI, Cornell University, Alfred University, McGill University, University of New Hampshire, University of Rhode Island, and U Maine-Orono. Throughout the weekend, the students participated in Lambda Chi Alpha's LEAP Program, Leadership by Example and Precept. In addition, many participants also took part in workshops pertaining to alternative Chapter Programming techniques that could be used in the future.
The weekend's events culminated at the Closing Banquet on Saturday Evening at the Worcester Holiday Inn. The banquet began by Fr. Peter Scanlon, performing a thoughtful invocation and was followed by a welcome from WPI Vice-President for Student Affairs Bernie Brown. In addition to Brown and Scanlon, Student Activities Director Greg Snoddy and Greek Life Advisor Andrea Dorow, were also in attendance. Several students received recognition for successfully completing the seminars of the weekend as well as for superior academic performance throughout their college careers. The banquet concluded with a keynote address by Brad ford Peabody, a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Board of Directors. He urged the brothers of Lambda Chi not to be complacent in either their college careers or thereafter. "The weekends events were beneficial to both Pi Zeta and all of the Northeast Chapters." Says Jeff Bayko, president of Pi Zeta, "It was a meaningful experience in which we got to meet with other Lambda Chi's throughout the Northeast and discuss issues that effect Fraternities as a whole."
This was the first time that Pi Zeta had the opportunity to host this event. The fraternity, which was founded in 1913, is located at 30 Dean Street.
