The Alumni Office: It's not just for alumni anymore...

by Donna Emma Marsella - Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs

Do you ever wonder what goes on in Higgins House, one of the three most historic buildings on campus? If you haven't yet, then you should.

The Alumni Office is hard at work creating and maintaining events and programs not only for Alumni, but also for you, the student body. There are many opportunities for you to participate in Alumni Office sponsored activities.

SAS

The Student Alumni Society is an honor organization that promotes the history and tradition of WPI. For any of you that attended the Founders Day activities, that was SAS' very own Rob Seneres '99 as the horse's rear. It's SAS that brings you your Tech Bibles, Survival Kits and Traditions Day as well as instigates the Freshmen/Sophomore Rivalry. In between, we have fun working with other student organizations on other campus events.

Reunion

The Alumni Office is also instrumental in bringing alumni back to WPI. Each spring we host 12 Reunion Classes welcoming them back to the campus they left 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, and yes 65! years ago. Volunteer with a friend and be part of the festivities. We provide on-campus housing and meals during the Reunion weekend plus plenty of opportunities for fun.

Homecoming

Here at Higgins House, our motto is It's never too early to start thinking about the future. In keeping with that theme, we have scheduled a Homecoming Planning Meeting for Tuesday, February 16 at 4:30pm in HL 218. Topics for discussion include discussing ideas for Spirit Week/Greek Week activities, reinstating a Homecoming theme, and forming Homecoming Committees. Represent your organization. Represent your class. Heck, represent your own personal interests.

Goat's Head

In 1996, the Alumni Office restored a long-standing, WPI tradition. The Goat's Head Rivalry is one of the most popular and most intense informal competitions on campus. Planning for the 1999-2000 Goat's Head Committee has already begun. Anyone interested in representing their class can stop by the Alumni Office or email alumni-office@wpi.edu. Be on the lookout at Winter Carnival! The goat is required to be there.

For more information on these or other events and programs, please visit the Alumni Office in Higgins House or email alumni-office@wpi.edu.
