TKE aids Worcester Shelter

by Adriano Palombizio - Class of '99,

On Saturday, January 23, the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon volunteered their time at a Worcester PIP shelter and also held a fundraiser for their national charity, Special Olympics, at cooperating local businesses. Over forty brothers took part in the day's events.

Its acronym standing for Public Inebriation Program, the PIP shelter was provided with a hefty cleaning as some spent time cleaning and washing out lockers, making beds, organizing donated clothing, and simply tidying up the shelter.

Our second event was aimed at raising money for Special Olympics, the TKE national charity. In groups of two or three, brothers were sent to Shaw's on Gold Star Blvd, Shaw's on Lincoln St., Shaw's on Stafford St., Spag's on Route 9, and Super Stop & Shop on West Boylston St. Once there, they constructed signs advertising the worthwhile cause for which they were collecting donations and proceeded to accept contributions from entering customers and people strolling about outside. They did this for an entire afternoon and at the end of it all, they had collected a hearty $385.19.
