How are we doing? As we complete our fourth issue of WPI West, we’d like to take a moment to remind you why we produce this publication and give you a chance to tell us how you think we’re doing. WPI West was created to help forge a strong connection between WPI and its alumni on the West Coast. With this issue, we’re broadening our reach, welcoming alumni in all 11 western states to our readership. As you’ll see from the map on the back page of this issue, there are some 2,100 alumni—about 8 percent of our total alumni body—who live and work in the West. Nearly 60 percent of you reside in California, but there are also sizeable concentrations in Arizona, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. With more than 1,500 miles of mountains, prairies, farms and cities standing between you and Worcester, it’s natural to feel a little isolated. That’s why we reach out twice a year with stories about alumni and students who are making their mark on the world from their homes and businesses in the western half of the United States (and through WPI’s Silicon Valley Project Center), and keep you informed about WPI news and events we think will interest readers in the West. Our goal is to bridge that gap and make you feel a little closer to your alma mater. How are we doing? We’d like to know what you think about this publication and its mission, and hear your suggestions for making it better. We invite you to take part in a brief online survey. If you take part in the survey and include your e-mail address, we’ll enter you in a drawing for a gift certificate to the WPI bookstore, where you can shop online for WPI-emblazoned merchandise of your choice. In the meantime, enjoy this issue and don’t hesitate to send comments and questions to us at wpiwest@wpi.edu.
