Bookstore Opens

At the Grand Opening of Tatnuck Bookseller @ WPI in October, owner Larry Abramoff and WPI Administrative Services Director Anne Schlickmann cut the ribbon. Another ribbon-cutting marked the official opening of the newly renovated grill area in the Wedge, which now includes a Burger King, Leo's Deli and World's Fare.

Meet the Prez

Continuing a tradition he initiated last year, President Edward Parrish invited new students to a barbecue at his home at One Drury Lane. The event was an opportunity for incoming students to meet with the president in an informal setting and tobob for apples and play shuffleboard and Frisbee.

Cookin' good

Members of the Black Student Union hosted a barbecue in September for members of the National Society of Black Engineers and the National Society of Hispanic Engineers, faculty and administrators. WPI Property Administrator Clarence Plant, renowned for his cooking, hosted the event at his nearby home.

Did you know that...

WPI is one of 300 top schools featured in a new book, Your Personal NetCollege 1997. The just-released text describes how to get into the school of your dreams using the Internet and online services. WPI is touted as one of the schools that "passed the NetCollege exam with flying colors." The university was awarded "Head of the Class" ranking and earned a 5 out of 5 "Wired" ratings for its A+ Web site.

WPI joins such other universities as Duke, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Princeton and MIT in receiving Head of the Class ranking, which makes it easier for students to know about specific institutions and to use the Web to apply, download or request additional information.
