PI's 1997-98 Academic Advisor's Handbook received a four-star rating online by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), which evaluates academic advising resources on the Internet. WPI was one of four universities to receive the four-star rankings.
The Office of Academic Advising, directed by Ann Garvin, developed the handbook (www.wpi.edu/Admin/OAA/Handbook), using one produced in 1993 by the University of Missouri at Rolla as a model.
"Several institutions have made their advising publications available on the Internet, and a few of these handbooks are especially remarkable," wrote Charles J. Heberle in a recent review article published by NACADA about technological innovations in academic advising. "The WPI manual's emphasis on the advising process rather than institutional rules and regulations is particularly notable."
