VOLUME 12, NO. 2 JANUARY 1999
Admissions Efforts Pay Off
he 1998-99 academic year got off to a great start with a 16.5 percent increase in applications and a freshman class nearly identical in size to that of the two previous years.
"It is clear that we have been successful in attracting more applicants," says Kevin Kelly, vice president for enrollment management. "The challenge for us now is to increase the number of those who make WPI their destination. The Admissions Office is evaluating methods and strategies to expand WPI's recognition and to work with admitted students to ensure that more actually enroll. We are looking at the yields achieved by our sister schools and evaluating financial aid, campus life and other issues to attempt to shrink the gap between applicants and enrollees."
