omecoming '98 rode in on the heels of Spirit Week, bringing hundreds of revelers back to campus to renew friendships and recapture the joy of their college days. It was a time for celebration, even if the football team lost 31-21 to Kings Point Merchant Marine.
Cheers went out to the unbeatable football and soccer teams of 1938Ñthe first in WPI history to complete their seasons without a single loss or tie. Returning members of both teams were honored at a dinner Friday night, along with new inductees to the Hall of Fame. WPI's crew program glided into the spotlight on Saturday, with races for alumni and parents at the Donahue Boathouse on Lake Quinsigamond, followed by a reception and dinner for supporters (see stories page 8).

Tailgating took on new energy as a competitive event, with judges Mimi and Pat Moran '65, and Joanne and Jake Jacobs '60 awarding points for enthusiasm, creativity and sucking up to the judges! The party of Darren Levack '98 and Don Perry '95 took first place, with honorable mention for the Class of '58 for its display of true classÑcloth tablecloths and glass champagne glassesÑand the Class of '98, for its cozy living room furnishings. Another first this year: shirtless male cheerleaders, their bodies-painted in school colors.

Comedian Steven Wright headlined in Harrington Auditorium on Saturday night, after a performance by the WPI Glee Club in Alden Memorial. The Class of 1998 celebrated its Zero-Year Reunion with a barbecue, and the Class of 1993 did the same for its fifth Reunion. The freshmen overpowered the sophomores in the traditional rope pull at Institute Pond, after what looked like the entire Class of 2002 rushed to the rope as the gun fired.
It was over before it began, but the memories linger on.
