A $500,000 award from the W.M. Keck Foundation of Los Angeles is bringing WPI to a new level in its ability to provide civil and environmental engineering education and research. The funds support two teaching and research centers, part of a $1.64 million project to equip and update facilities for the Highway Infrastructure Program (HIP) and the Environmental Infrastructure Program (EIP).
Renovations were recently completed in two Kaven Hall labs. The HIP lab, top, develops materials for highway construction and restoration and roadside safety technology; the EIP lab focuses on water protection, pollution prevention and the development of systems for safe water delivery.
