In February the Student Activities Office, the Healthy Alternatives Office, and the Student Speakers Fund sponsored "Tips for the University," a dynamic skills training program to help prevent problems associated with alcohol and drug misuse among college students. The program was led by Orientation and Student Activities Director Gregory Snoddy, Timothy Igo '99, Connie Pappagianopoulos '98 and Amanda Piper '99, all certified trainers who completed a 10-hour course at MIT.
Part of WPI's ongoing commitment to alcohol and drug awareness and intervention education, the sessions provided participants with opportunities to learn about the effects of alcohol consumption and to gain an understanding of the social and legal responsibilities associated with alcohol service. "Our goal," explains Snoddy, "is to teach individuals how to intervene with their friends in situations where alcohol or drugs are present and to help students keep their friends safe."
