WPI/Xerox M.B.A. Fellowships support Hispanic students

W ith a $60,000 grant, Xerox Corp. has awarded WPI a second two-year Xerox/M.B.A. Fellowship. It provides full-time tuition, a monthly academic-year stipend, and a paid summer internship with Xerox. Fellows also have the option of completing sponsored research work in conjunction with the M.B.A. program.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens of Hispanic descent who have completed a bachelor of science in an engineering discipline and will become full-time WPI M.B.A. students.

To date, two students, Javier Gonzalez and Felix Diaz, both from Puerto Rico, have been awarded Xerox/WPI M.B.A. fellowships. "My summer internship with Xerox exposed me to some of the disciplines that make a business run," says Diaz. "It was a great supplement to what I have learned in this program."

"Our applications-oriented M.B.A. program familiarizes graduates with the 'big picture' perspective they need to be successful upper-level managers, as well as with the hands-on knowledge these professionals need to meet the day-to-day challenges of the workplace," says Norman Wilkinson, WPI's director of graduate management programs.

"It ensures that students under- stand how to lead and manage in high-technology organizations, and prepares them for leadership positions in organizations throughout the world."

Headquartered in Stamford, Conn., Xerox develops, manufactures and markets products and systems designed to make offices more productive. Paul Allaire, the company's chairman and CEO, received a B.S. in electrical engineering from WPI in 1960. "Xerox is pleased to offer these fellowships as a means of giving talented students access to the quality offered by WPI's graduate management programs," says Allaire.
