McIntosh is a professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was named to the NAE for his contributions to microwave and milimiter-wave radar remote sensors and their applications. He received the 1993 Hobart Newell Award from WPI's Electrical and Computer Engineering Department as that year's outstanding ECE alumnus.
Kamen is president of DEKA Research and Development in Manchester, N.H. He was cited for inventing and comercializing biomedical devices and fluid measurement and control systems, and for popularizing engineering among young people. He received an honorary doctorate of engineering from WPI in 1992.
In 1995 Jackson Durkee '43 was inducted into the NAE; the honor was mentioned in a story about him in the Fall 1995 Wire. The election of Paul Allaire '60 was noted in the Class Notes.
Election to the academy is made in recognition of contributions to engineering theory and practice. It is one of the highest professional honors in the field. U.S. membership now totals 1,893; the number of foreign associates is 153
